1st Round Buick Open – PGA Tour China
After the 1st round of the Buick Open I have shot a score of 72 (Ev) to be even par total and coming T11th. With conditions chilly for the day the sun did manage to pop its head out from behind the clouds but only rarely.
Starting on the 10th hitting the fairway I just missed the green short rolling it in from 12m away for birdie. Trouble with the wind direction on 11 with my 2nd shot I missed short again not making up and down. I then got on a roll with birdies at 12 and 13 holing 5m putts. The 14th is an easy get home in 2 par 5 but missing the green with 4iron from the fairway I was not able to make up and down for birdie. A solid 6iron into the heart of the green at 15 rolling another putt in for birdie from 5m. The putter was hot as I hit 3 red.
After passing initially what I thought was the trouble section I was in a great position for the rest of the day. Slight missed left 4 wood put me in the light rough at 16 missing the green from there barely and missing a 1.5m par putt.
Solid play at 17, 18 and 1 all having chances from mixed length to get my last drop shot back missed before than missing the fairway at 2 leaded to a miss green and not getting another up and down either saw another bogey. Was 0 out of 4 for up and downs to that point before making an up and down par save at the 3rd finally! Slightly less than excellent golf continued before a 3 putt bogey came into the mix at 4.
5, 6, 7 and 8 I hit the greens in regulation never being any closer than 5m all making two putts before getting up and down at the last to finish off a solid days performance with the leader 3 shots ahead. I played with him today and will be looking forward to him continuing his good run as it helps my game playing with good players. Round 2 tee time starts at 6.45am.
