Wyong Pro Am

After the Wyong Pro-Am I have shot a score of 68 (-3) to place T5th hitting 14 greens 29 putts.

Dropping my wife to Macquarie this morning I thought we had little chance of playing due to heavy rain that was around. Once I arrived at the course there was no wind and the rain continued to dampen hopes. Thunderstorms were also on the forecast for late in the day but both evaded Wyong Golf Club for the afternoon which was amazing.

Teeing off on the 4th a par 3 I hit the green 12m from the flag starting with a 3 putt bogey and could not bounce back being in an easy position for an up and down birdie on the par 5 5th. Made a good par at 6 after being out of position off the tee. Close approach at 7 to 3m I missed the birdie chance low side. Hitting driver on a great line on 8 a short par 4 it caught the tree tops and I was blocked out. My 2nd shot I had short sighted myself but flopped it up to a foot for a momentous par save then had a regulation par on 9 sliding by the birdie chance from 8m. Tricky green that one.

10th was a 3 play hole par 5 and I blocked cut the ball into the trees. Found a way to advance a 2iron to 70m out on the 13th hole where I proceeded to pitch the ball to 2m making birdie. Green in reg pars came at 11, 12, 13 and 14 with birdie attempts from 8, 12, 8 and 7m. At 15 I was faced with a downhill, front right pin leaving the 8iron from 152m into the front right bunker holing the bunker shot for birdie. Never felt better. This kicked off a 1 putt run for the next 3 holes making two more birdies at 16 and 18 while saving a par at 17 from a short sighted position again.

With 3 holes to go and the last being the easiest par 5 on the course I was in contention again. Similar to yesterday’s double I tried to slow up on the driver (water down left at 280m) with a left to right slider and over cut it. I could only manage to hit my 2nd shot to just off the front edge where I had a 25m birdie putt leaving it 4m short making bogey. Green in reg at 2 after a big driver making par from 6m before slotting driver to the go zone. 4iron over the left trees just left of the green making up and down for birdie to end the day.

Another top 10 and solid performance. Pleased with hitting 14 greens and it was great to have a hole out from a bunker. Thanks to my playing partners Lee, Terry and Russell and well done to Wyong for putting on yet another fantastic pro am. Thanks Mitchell Pryor and Jason Butt in the shop as well as David Lulham. Next event is on Friday at Shelly Beach teeing off at 7am.
