Western Australian Open Round 4
After the 4th round of the Western Australian Open I have shot a score of 75 (+3) to be 3 over total T40th hitting 12 greens 31 putts.
Really could not have been better weather with the least amount of wind for the whole event.
Teeing off the 10th I drove it to greenside on the par 4 chipping it to 2m missing the bird there. The next 3 holes I missed the greens and made 3 bogies. Left the ball in the worst spots you could imagine short sighted although my closest par save chance came at 13 from 1.5m where I missed.
Just catching the right tree line on the 14th on a par 5 I had to chip out with 7iron due to not having a full swing. Another 7iron to 10m where I holed my 1st birdie for the day. Good chance at 15, a tough par 3 from 6m came close before driving it 40m over the par 4 16th to knock it off the front edge and make an up and down par to keep the momentum I had now gathered back. Blocked out behind trees on the drive left, for my 2nd at 17, all I could do was hit a 3iron along the ground to 70m out where I hit the pitch shot to 1.5m making another birdie.
Unfortunately at 18 I had some bad luck hitting the ball over the trees and the ball hit a tree on the way down kicking 30m left knocking the ball internally out of bounds on the 10th where I made a double bogey. On my back nine I hit 8 greens in regulation only missing the 6th pin high right. My 3 closest chances came at 2 (3m), 5 (3m) and 9 (2m).
Just wasn’t my weekend with the putter. Never got off to a great start on any of the days always making a bogey before making a birdie too so it was pleasing to have made the cut when my game was mediocre. I really enjoyed playing the Mt Lawley layout. It certainly is one of the best layouts I have played. Just such a great challenge. You feel like you can tear it to pieces but yet it bites you unexpectedly.
Big thanks to John Hughes Hyundai, 10 years they have been supporting my golf in WA with a use of a car. Could not be doing it with out you. And how can I forget my Perth family Babe and Mark who have now been looking after me for 6 years whenever I need a bed. I am seriously lucky to have such wonderful people in my life the helps me continue in my career.
Next stop is old home week at the Isuzu Queensland Open which starts on Thursday. Back to my old stomping ground the Brisbane Golf Club where I was a member for 3 years. I played pennants for them and even won the Club Champs in 2008. Really looking forward to the week ahead.
