Round 1 Lanhai Open – PGA Tour China
After round one of the Lanhai Open I have shot a score of 71 (-1) to be T29th. One of my better starts to a four round event.
Early on I had 2 opportunities to taste under par 1st but the putter was slow to start. I then hit the harder section just trying to keep the solid tee to green going.
Faced with a 3iron shot on my approach into 16 the 450m par 4 I came up short finishing in the bunker and the ball was close to the vertical lip. Aiming away from the flag I made a great bogey.
It wasn’t until the 3rd hole or my 12th hole of the day where I made my 1st birdie. Hitting 4 iron into the green for my approach the ball ran through the where I made up and down.
Another close opportunity loomed on the next, with a great stroke the line I choose was not to be. I was gobsmacked how the ball did not turn in and stood there for a while in disbelief.
Again just chasing my fairways and greens I turned up on the last par 5 of the day the 9th and hit my worse shot of the day left into the long grass.
My feet were standing on the path and I did not have the best of lies so I opted to take relief and I could not believe where the ball ended up, on a bare patch under a tuff of grass. Hacking it out with 9iron the shot ended up in the fairway bunker 145m from the flag, into the wind where I hit 7iron to a foot for my tap in birdie. Nice way to end the 1st round.
