After the 1st round of the Henan Open China Tour I have shot a score of 75 (+3) to be placed T69th. Top 60 making the cut.

Throughout the morning there was a constant drizzle and as the round went on it become harder to hole putts due to light surface water and greens having a decent layer of grass on top. Leading into the event the course was very lush due to heavy rain on Sunday and Monday and mower clippings were constantly wiped off the ball. The greens are rolling close to a 10 without surface water.

Over the course of the front nine I stuck and executed my game plan perfectly making one birdie on the 9th with the rest pars. Would have been nice to drop one or two more putts to be honest. The birdie was a tap in on the 9th from 2 feet. Going into the harder side the back nine again I executed and stuck to my game plan until the 16th. Going back to the 14th where I made bogey on a 206m, back flag par 3. Missing the tee shot in the correct spot just off the green but was unable to make up and down.

16 though! Big disappointment for the day. One changing the game plan then not executing a driver off the par 5 although getting lucky in the left grass I had a 3rd shot in from 211m coming up short left to a right flag. Not making up and down with a putt from 3m. Bogey. Off the 17th the hardest hole on the course. A 419m par 4 I chose to hit my 4 wood for safety down the narrow fairway with bush left and water hazard right. A soft push I ended up losing the ball in the hazard by the narrowest of margins. Being 220m out in long rough I managed a 4 iron into the green side bunker 35m out (no mans land) to then hit it into the next bunker in front of me – short, making up and down for a double bogey.

Back at it in the afternoon tomorrow teeing off at 12 midday off the back nine. Goal to get through that nine under par which will set up for a successful day going into the front nine. Please click here to follow the live scores for the 2nd round.
