4th Round Zhuhai Phoenix Tree Open – PGA Tour China
After the 4th round of the Zhuhai Open I have shot a score of 72 (+1) to be 17 over par total finishing in T44th. Teeing off the 10th I was off to a good start to the day making birdie down my 1st hole. Having chances at 11 and 12 from 5m I was unable to make for birdie before missing the green at 13 short making a great up and down for par to keep momentum rolling.
Down 14 the par 5 I elected to hit driver off the tee and a well struck shot ended up rolling to far into the hazard where I had to chip out. Missing the green in regulation I made up and down for par. At the 15th we turned back into the wind on the 430m par 4 and once I hit my tee shot into the rough I was unable to make it to the green in regulation, not making up and down. Close opportunity at the next from 3m missed for birdie before paring the par 3 17th and picking birdie on the down wind 18th hole hitting the green under regulation.
Smoking driver down the 1st I had 215m to the front of the green. Electing to hit a cut up 4 wood down wind I got a straight ball flight ending up in the left hazard over the green. Finding the ball I hacked it out of the hazard off the green 10m away and took a 7 from there, double bogey. Heavy flop shots. Ended up bouncing back at 2 and 3 with super wedge approaches almost holing out on the 3rd and even the 2nd coming close. My playing partner on the 2nd, holed out from the fairway for eagle 2 which was exciting to see. A one putt bogey at 4 was amazing when I was in some major trouble.
Making par at 5 before hitting the shot right into the hazard taking a drop and hitting my 3rd to 45ft just off the green rolling in my longest putt for par I have done in ages! 2 pars at 7 and 8 before bogeying the last.
The same playing partner that holed out for eagle on 2 mentioned to me halfway down the fairway that he was going to propose to his girlfriend on the green and with shock and amazement he gave me the task to direct her to him onto the green surface so he could get down on one knee. It certainly was a surprise to all and a great way to end the day. Congrats Allen. 💍
